Description
N-acetyl-glucosamine (NAG) is a simple sugar derived from the outer shell of crustaceans. NAG can help repair and reduce symptoms of gastrointestinal ailments such as leaky gut syndrome, chron’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome by improving elasticity to the gut tissue and encouraging release of reparative molecules (1). The addition of NAG showed promising results in alleviating symptoms in those living with irritable bowel disease mainly by improving mucin production, a protective substance for the gut (2). Similar to “glucosamine”, NAG significantly enhances the prevention of joint damage through increased spongy fluid around cartilage and inhibiting the activity of joint degradation (3,4).
NAG should be taken as recommended by a healthcare professional to assess if appropriate for you.
