Description

The rate of diabetes in Canada is estimated to be 4.5% of the population and rising. Obesity contributes immensely due to the growing consumption and availability of fast foods.

Many people do not realize they have diabetes nor do they seek medical attention until it has progressed to a serious stage. Early signs include frequent urination, excessive thirst, and excessive appetite. These symptoms should not be ignored. Genetic factors can play a major role in developing the disease, but as mentioned above, diet and lifestyle can also trigger actual development. Diabetics should pay particular nutritional requirements and the lack of absorbing nutrients that result from diabetes. Many diabetics do not have enough intracellular vitamin C as its transportation into the cells becomes dependent on insulin. A low glycemic index diet is helpful in controlling the rise in blood glucose levels. There are two types of blood sugar imbalances. To regulate them, we must first understand the types and what causes them:

Low Blood Sugar (also known as Hypoglycemia) Hypoglycemia exists when your blood is abnormally low in levels of glucose (sugar). The primary cause is a malfunctioning pancreas that is over producing insulin. Inadvertently, when the pancreas gland produces too much insulin, there are inadequate amounts of blood sugar, resulting in symptoms of fatigue, weight gain, and poor adrenal function.
High Blood Sugar (also known as Hyperglycemia or Diabetes Mellitus) This condition occurs when your blood is abnormally high in levels of glucose (sugar). Diabetes is caused by insufficient secretion of insulin by the pancreas. This is imperative because the utilization of glucose is regulated by insulin. Consequently, when the pancreas does not secrete enough insulin, there is too much blood sugar, resulting in symptoms of abnormal thirst, hunger, weakness, fatigue and frequent urination. Both conditions can create serious health problems. Balancing your blood sugar is necessary to live a long healthy life. Blood Sugar control is a natural solution to regulating your blood sugar level.

Action

The following synergistic herbs, micronutrients and nutraceuticals work together to effectively maintain optima blood sugar levels.

Vanadyl Sulphate

Studies in animals with and without diabetes suggest that vanadium may have an insulin-like effect, reducing blood sugar levels. Based on these findings, preliminary studies involving humans have been conducted, with mostly promising results. However, no meaningful double-blind placebo-controlled studies on vanadium, as a sole treatment for diabetes, have yet been reported. Vanadyl sulphate is a mineral named after the Scandinavian goddess of beauty, youth, and lustre. Taking vanadium will not make you beautiful, youthful, and lustrous, but evidence from animal studies suggests it may be an essential micronutrient. That is, your body may need it but in very low doses. Based on promising animal studies, high doses of vanadium have been tested as an aid in controlling blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. Like chromium, another trace mineral used for diabetics, vanadium has also been recommended as an aid in bodybuilding.

Chromium Polynicotinate

It is a simple mineral the body needs in very small amounts, yet chromium plays a significant role in human nutrition. Chromium’s most important function in the body is to help regulate the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. Insulin plays a starring role in this fundamental biological process, by regulating the movement of glucose out of the blood and into cells. Scientists believe that insulin uses chromium as an assistant (technically, a cofactor) to “unlock the door” to the cell membrane, thus allowing glucose to enter the cell. In the past, it was believed that, to accomplish this, the body first converted chromium into a large chemical called glucose tolerance factor (GTF).

Cinnamon Extract 10%

Highly preliminary evidence suggests that cinnamon might have potential benefits for allergies and diabetes.

Fenugreek 50%

Present interest in fenugreek focuses on its potential benefits for people with diabetes or high cholesterol. Numerous studies and preliminary trials in humans have found that the fenugreek can reduce blood sugar and serum cholesterol levels in people with diabetes. Significantly, fenugreek can improve some measures of blood sugar control and insulin response as compared to a placebo. Triglyceride levels decreased and HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels increased, presumably due to the enhanced insulin sensitivity.

Garlic 10,000 allicin/gm

Preliminary evidence shows that garlic may help prevent atherosclerosis, the most common cause of heart attacks and strokes. Garlic preparations have been found to slow hardening of the arteries in animals, reducing the size of plaque deposits by nearly 50%.

Gymnema Sylvestre 25%

Also called gurnar, it has a coincidental double relationship to sugar. When placed on the tongue, it blocks the sensation of sweetness, and when taken internally, it can help control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes.

Bitter Melon 5%

Bitter Melon is used therapeutically in Asia, Africa and India to treat the symptoms of diabetes, especially late-onset Diabetes Mellitus. It contains an insulin-like molecule known as plant insulin. This plant insulin resembles synthetic insulin in its structure and is used to regulate blood sugar levels.

Billberry Extract 25%

A double mind, placebo-controlled trial of bilberry extract in 14 people with diabetic retinopathy or hypertensive retinopathy (damage to the retina caused by diabetes or hypertension, respectively) found significant improvements in the treated group.

Dragons Blood 5%

Sourced from the Kino of the European pharmacopeias. The gum resin looks like dried blood (Dragon’s blood), much used in Indian medicine. This herb has a long history of use in India as a treatment for diabetes. The flavonoid, epicatechin, extracted from the bark of this plant has been shown to prevent alloxan-induced beta cell damage in rats. Both epicatechin and a crude alcohol extract of Pterocarpus marsupium have actually been shown to regenerate functional pancreatic beta cells. No other drug or natural agent has been shown to generate this activity.

Bhuiamla 5%

Bhuiamla has been used in traditional medicine for over 2000 years for diabetes. Bhuiamla has been used to correct and restore liver functions, which are essential for glucose metabolism. It activates the liver for effective glucose utilization, thus helping maintain blood sugar levels. It stimulates the liver for the process of glycogenesis (formation of glycogen from food), therapy helping regulate blood sugar levels.

Holy Basil 10%

Pharmacological studies demonstrate that Basil seeds contain several bioflavonoidal & terpene principals which exert potent anti-stress, immuno-modulator as well as liver-activating actions. This is highly beneficial for diabetics in regulating metabolism and relieving stress in stress-induced diabetes.

Indian Gooseberry 20%

In traditional medical systems, this herb is known to strengthen and improve the functioning of the pancreas in diabetics. It reduces the negative effects of free radicals, which are responsible for the damage to the insulin-producing b-cells of the pancreas. Indian Gooseberry possesses significant immunomodulatory activity and also has established anti-oxidant properties. It is significantly important for the management of one of the serious complications of diabetes, namely hyperlipidemia.

Tinospora 10%

Tinospora exerts an anti-hyperglycemic & cholesterol regulating action. Treatment with Tinospora shows an improvement in glucose tolerance and an increase in plasma insulin levels. It also possesses immunomodulatory and anti-stress effects. Tinospora has been reported to stimulate the liver for the process of glycogenesis (formation of glycogen from food), thereby helping to regulate blood sugar levels.

Banaba 1%

Banaba (Lagerstroemia speciosa), long used in the Philippines as diabetes herbal medicine, has gained momentum and widespread acceptance, even in western medical circles. Medical research and clinical trials performed on this miraculous herb not only in the Philippines but in other countries as well have proven the age-old Filipino wisdom. Banaba possesses the powerful compound corosolic acid that lends itself to the treatment of diabetes.

Ginkgo Biloba 24%

6% Ginkgo biloba extract may prove useful for the prevention and treatment of early-stage diabetic neuropathy. Ginkgo may protect nerve damage resulting from poor circulation to the extremities that are common in diabetes sufferers. Other studies have shown that ginkgo may also help prevent diabetic retinopathy, and eye disease that can cause blindness.

Ginger Root 5%

Full Spectrum Gingerols is derived from the tuberous, rhizome (underground root) of the perennial plant Zingiber officinale. Ginger contains moderate amounts of protein, and magnesium associated with the aid in digestion.

Quercetin

Quercetin blocks an enzyme that leads to the accumulation of sorbitol, which has been linked to nerve, eye, and kidney damage in those with diabetes.

Dandelion 3%

Dandelion and inulin have demonstrated experimental hypoglycemic activity. This may be due to the fact that inulin is composed of fructose chains which may act to buffer blood glucose levels, thus preventing sudden and severe fluctuations. Dandelion may intensify the blood sugar-lowering effect of the diabetes drug, glipizide. It contains inulin, a natural fructose that helps diabetics lower their blood sugar.

Grapeseed Extract 95%

Proanthocyanidins concentrate in the linings of microscopic blood vessels in the eye. Cellular debrids and inflammation easily block these delicate blood conduits, sensitive to injury from diabetes. As long as the right level of permeability is maintained, however, no damage occurs to the retina.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha-lipoic acid is used to counter nerve damage in people with diabetes (types I and II). Known as diabetic neuropathy, this painful condition tends to develop in people who have uncontrolled diabetes for a period of time. This neuropathy is usually caused in part by free-radical damage to nerves resulting from unregulated Blood Sugar Control (glucose). Because of its antioxidant properties, alpha lipoic acid can help to block such damage. In addition, its effect on glucose metabolism improves the glucose-lowering action of insulin (a hormone that regulates blood sugar).

Suggested Use

Take 1 capsule 3 times daily with a meal or as directed by your health professional.
